This Is Taipei was founded in 2026 by two long-term residents working in the Taiwanese media. After seeing a need for a more readable and practical platform for news, events, and lifestyle content in English, we decided to build the resource we felt was missing.

James Thompson is a journalist working in Taiwan. He has been living in Taipei since 2020 and has been studying Chinese for nearly two decades. Fascinated by Taipei's dense urban environment, he likes street photography, street cats, and Taiwanese street food.

Kitty Busz is a journalist working in Taiwan. She has been living in Taipei since 2023 and has a decade of experience in professional documentary filmmaking. She likes punishingly long bike rides around the riverside, visiting Wai'ao beach in the summer, and eating rechao with friends.

Our aim is to help English-speaking residents and visitors better understand what Taipei has to offer.
