Coffee shops on and around Wuxing Street
Where to work, unwind, or chill over a drink away from the crowds in Xinyi District
Wuxing Street is a very different side of Xinyi District from the malls and skyscrapers surrounding Taipei 101.
Running southeast toward Taipei Medical University, the street and its surrounding alleys pass through a largely residential neighborhood packed with inexpensive restaurants, traditional market stalls, bakeries, drink shops, and a great collection of cafes.
The university and nearby hospital help keep the area busy with students and workers throughout the day, while the narrow streets and surrounding lanes have allowed plenty of small independent businesses to squeeze in.
For coffee drinkers, that means there are several worthwhile stops within a relatively short walk of Taipei 101, from tiny outdoor coffee stands to cafes where you can settle in with a laptop.
#1: Cafe Wilbeck
A bright, affordable cafe that works well for a daytime laptop session
Cafe Wilbeck is a bright, airy coffee shop on Wuxing Street with an industrial-style interior, vintage decor, and plenty of seating. The window seats are particularly nice if you are settling in with a laptop or book and there is also a small outside seating area.
It is a good place to work for an hour or two, although there are no power outlets for customers, which may also help stop the cafe turning into an all-day coworking space.
Staff, however, will charge electronics behind the counter if needed.
Prices are reasonable, with an americano costing NT$70 when This Is Taipei visited. There are also simple snacks including cinnamon rolls and cookies.
The walls are covered with posters and prints, including a particularly memorable "Still the Sun Rises" poster, which adds some character to an otherwise fairly minimalist space.
#2: Ogawa Cafe
A small, cozy neighborhood garden cafe
Ogawa Cafe occupies a small old building on Wuxing Street and is easy to miss if you aren't looking for it.
Coffee is ordered from a small wooden counter and placed when ready in a small hatch that faces the garden.
There are just a handful of comfy seats outside in a leafy courtyard out the back and no indoor seating, making the whole experience feel like you're in someone's garden.
When This Is Taipei visited in August 2026, the staff members were friendly and the garden was quiet, making it a lovely place to chill and read.
Coffee was reasonably priced at NT$120 for a brown sugar latte. An americano cost NT$80.
Although it would be possible to do some work in the courtyard, seating is limited and it's best suited for a pleasant 30-minute coffee stop rather than a long afternoon with a laptop.
Also, be sure to check the weather before you visit! This is not the place to be caught in a rainstorm.
#3: 391tpe
A spacious, late-night cafe where you can settle in and work for hours
If you need somewhere to open your laptop and work for the day, 391tpe is one of the better options around Wuxing Street.
The cafe is unusually spacious, with plenty of tables spread across a large, bright room. Some seats even have dividers between them for a little extra privacy, while the tables by the windows get plenty of natural light.
It is very work-friendly, with no time limit, although there are fewer power outlets than you might expect for such a work-focused cafe, so arriving with a charged laptop is a good idea. It's also cash only.
The biggest advantage is how late it stays open. With a 1 AM closing time, 391tpe works particularly well if your working day tends to stretch into the evening. There are so many seats too, we didn't feel pressure to leave, despite spending a whole afternoon there and only buying one drink.
There is more than coffee on the menu, too. Alongside cakes and drinks, including a particularly refreshing fresh lemonade, 391tpe serves proper meals such as chicken curry and pork dumplings.
It's not cheap: The lemonade set us back NT$170. But the space is great for chilling all day.
