For those who love a department store shopping experience, Taipei is full of garish, brightly lit spots to browse. But for those who prefer a more casual pace and less full-force air conditioning, there are several weekend markets across the city that offer something more laid back and personal.

From handmade goods and small local brands to fresh produce and plants, each market has its own focus. Together, they make for an easy weekend wander and a good excuse to spend a few hours outside.

Go early for a quieter wander, or later when things get busier. Either way, you’ll probably leave with something you didn’t plan to buy.

#1: Zhongshan Linear Park Market

The area around Zhongshan Linear Park, the 500-meter stretch between Zhongshan and Shuanglian MRT stations, is one of the most vibrant parts of Taipei, where art galleries sit alongside cheap eats, upmarket restaurants, temples, and coffee shops.

On weekends, a handicraft market pops up in the park, with stalls selling candles, jewelry, baked goods, clothing, and other handmade items.

It's busy and dynamic, filled with young people hanging out and browsing, especially at nighttime when the fairy lights are switched on, and live music performances start.

The market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from around 1 PM to around 8 PM, though exact times may vary. If you're looking to pick up tasteful souvenirs for friends back home, it's worth checking out.

Held every weekend at Taipei Expo Park in Zhongshan District, the Taipei Expo Farmers Market is one of the largest and most popular markets in the city.

Farmers from across Taiwan set up stalls selling fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. There’s also a section selling pantry goods such as honey, jam, rice, tea, and coffee.

You can chat with the people who actually grew the food, ask how it’s produced, and get tips on how to choose, cook, and store it, according to the Taipei Expo Farmers Market website.

Everything sold at the market is certified by official agricultural bodies, so visitors can shop with confidence, the website said.

The market is held every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM and is a few minutes' walk from Yuanshan MRT Station.

Every weekend, the Jianguo Holiday Flower Market draws crowds to its stretch under the overpass just northeast of Daan Forest Park.

The market runs for nearly half a kilometer and brings together around 200 sellers, according to the city government.

Stalls are packed with everything plant and flower-themed, from indoor and outdoor plants to seeds, soil, and other gardening supplies. You’ll find plants of all sizes, from small potted succulents to larger leafy varieties, alongside rows of cacti and flowering plants in every color.

Vendors are usually happy to share tips on care, including sunlight, watering, and how to keep your plants alive longer than a week.

It’s open from 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, and is worth visiting to see the range of flowers and plants, even if you are not interested in buying anything.

Right next door is the Taipei Jianguo Jade Market, where hundreds ofvendors sell jade jewelry, charms, and traditional ornaments, including ruyi talismans believed to bring good fortune.
