Earthquake hits northeastern Taiwan causing Taipei to shake

In Taipei, it registered 3 out of 7 on Taiwan's earthquake intensity scale

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck waters off eastern Taiwan at 8:39 PM on Friday, causing Taiwan’s capital to shake lightly.

The quake’s epicenter was located 38.7 km east-northeast of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 98.3 km, according to Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA), which monitors seismic activity.

In Taipei, the earthquake registered 3 out of 7 on the CWA’s intensity scale, meaning that houses shook, bowls, plates, doors, and windows made noise, and dangling objects swung.

Elsewhere in Taiwan, level 4 on the CWA’s intensity scale was felt in Yilan County, Hsinchu County, Nantou County, and Hualien County.
